Dakar SuccessTamsin Jones, is the latest of Off Road Skills team of crack instructors to successfully fight her way to the finish of the 2010 Dakar Rally. Tamsin’s victory now brings the BMW Off Road Skills instructors tally to 14 Dakar finishes and two Guinness World Records. With relentless determination and some tough ordeals to go alongside her finisher’s medal, Tamsin completed the arduous 9,000km route from Buenos Aires to Chile through the Atcama desert, the Mountains of the Andes and back to Argentina in the designated 14 days. It was a close call though; in the second liason of stage 13 her bike almost gave up, leading her to cross 120km of the desert on tick over. Less lucky in his attempts this year, however, was fellow BMW Off Road Skills Instructor, Craig Bounds. Craig’s second Dakar got off to a promising start with a fantastic 18th place on Stage 2. Unfortunately, however, 25km into Stage 13, he was forced to retire. Craig was supported in his Dakar attempt by our very own Bernie Wright. Bernie runs his bike service and rally prep operation from the GlobeBusters premises in South Wales. If you want some of Bernies expertise then give us a call.
